They say any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.
I think that's true, but it doesn't mean you might not need clean pants afterwards.

| All said and done, that was a good landing given the circumstances. Probably wasn't all that fun for the passengers though.. |

This is a good video,
In all fairness, I would ask question about the pilots decision to carry out the landing though, looking at his struggle with the gusting crosswinds, I would have aborted on final.
Landing gear tests are very robust, and obviously, these stood up to the challenge, but I can tell you they would not have taken much more then this. They had to deal with not only a horizontal offset due to the crosswinds but also a bank offset because he put one leg down first (very hard as well)
You can see the tyres wobble as they try and grip into the direction of travel rather than the direction they are pointing.
I've been to aircraft that have suffered gear damage for less than this so he was lucky to have landed that plane with no incident. |
