There is a problem with the current Unity engine that KSP uses. They still use the 32bit version, which means it only has access to limited RAM allocation, (i think its 4gb) so regardless how much you have on your PC, you can still run into memory problems when running KSP with a few mods installed.
one slight workaround to this is to search the spaceport for Texture mods, These lower the texture ram usage (either by compression or lowering the quality)
So, If you like your Part mods, and start getting random crashes, its a memory problem and untill KSP starts using the 64bit Engine, then there is no fix apart from more mods. |

Great tip, Dan. I think B9 has its own, but as you said, there is one on the Spaceport which handles all the textures. Since adding this my game has become far more stable.
On a related note to mods in general, I've found that searching for mods via the forums is more effective. Often a mod gets released under a new Spaceport name with an update. Either because the mod undergoes a drastic overhaul, or development is picked up by a different developer. Descriptions in the forums are usually more complete and in fact many Spaceport entries just point to a forum topic instead of leaving descriptions. |
