Constantly checking the minimap is crucial to getting kills in BF4. The default settings make the minimap quite small and place it at the far lower-left corner of the screen. You should make your minimap look like this:

To do so, go to video settings and set the HUD scale to max. Then follow the steps in this video to move the HUD/minimap closer to the center of the screen:

While that video is for BF3, just change the directory path to BF4 and it will work. |

I tried the values suggested in the video and didn't like it much. Server chat, HUD, everything was smushed into the center screen along with the minimap.
So I'm experimenting with something between the 0.6 he suggested and the 1.00 that is default.
By the way, what does everyone run for their FOV? I'm at 80 but wondered if the majority of others were at 90 (like the pros).

I wound up going with a horizontal setting of 0.8 which puts the minimap closer to the middle but not too far towards the center. |

Right now I have vertical set to 1.00 and horizontal to 0.70, still evaluating to see how I like it. I've also set my FOV to 80, up from the default of 70.

Default is 70, max via the slider is 90. Much above 90 and you start to feel like you are playing with a fisheye lens...although you will see everyone sneaking up on you
