So I know I keep bringing it up how much I hate the B / F defense tactic we've been doing. This is mostly because it's too reliant on the rest of our team taking other points.
If you overlook C from the roof of the building we camp when playing CTF on the easy side, you can also cover D or recap by running over the girder. Ideally a tugs would be deployed here to let you know if someone's coming up the stairs near you. It's also a short hop off the C flag to the A flag.
From E you can easily cover D if it's under pressure by either running directly to it with suppressive help from C, or skirt around to the green roof. G is a bit farther than the C-A but still an easy cap and then run back up to the ladder to get back into position on E.
If I was to split it up a squad I'd have 2 people on the C cap, 2 on E and 1 on the rooftop above G diagonally across from E.
This way we always maintain a 3 cap and can easily break their 2 x2 links if they get a-b and g-f _________________ [MTL]Mortis - "No one says you have to fight a war with your pants on..."

Background on the F/B strategy: We were seeing that D control point attracted both teams and it would turn into a slug fest in the middle of the map. In those scenarios, the team with the best shooters won. Since we cold not compete against the combination of good shooters and overwhelming numbers, we started using the F/B strategy to avoid that fight. Since F and B were out of the way, they did not attract as much attention. This allowed us to use our small squad tactics to hold these points. When the enemy did come for F ro B, they did not come in force as most of them were sucked into the middle fight at D. In this scenario, the enemy forces that decided to come to F and B were killed easily as they were not as organized as an entire DC squad and it weakened the enemy forces in the middle which would make it easier for our team to cap D.
Where the F/B strat fails is having members run between the two points. Unless you have a vehicle, this wastes too much time in transit. If we're running one squad I like to have us hold the F/B flag that is closest to the enemy spawn. This disrupts 2 links for the enemy and gives us a flanking opportunity. Depending on the level of enemy activity we can easily move up and take E or C depending on which side we're on. Doing so usually removes all of the enemy links at that point, and we get to backrage D. If we start to lose F/B when can fall back easily enough.
In general, we are normally running a full squad that can shoot, move and communicate. I generally don't like having us follow the zerg. Capping F or B gets us out of the path of the friendly and enemy zergs and opens up opportunities for us to flank making our small squad much more effective.
To that end, I propose we hold either F and E, or B and C depending on which side. This is kind of a hybrid approach taking what Mortis has said and our traditional F/B strategy. Like Mortis said, from C we have quick access to A and from E we have quick access to G. What we have to be careful about it getting sucked into a fight between G and E or C and A. I believe that fighting over points that have no link to one another is a bad idea. Remember, it is links that win the map. For example, holding E and G don't give us a link. Doing so would only work if the rest of the team is able to hold the majority of the links.
Interesting to note that getting to E is harder than getting to C. The only way to E is via a ladder (exposed) or from the roofs at D. C can be accessed from a staircase right on the point, the sign from D, a ladder from the street and via the roof tops that are close to B. Accessing E is simply difficult most times. Spawning on E usually spawns you on the street and only occasionally will you get lucky enough to be spawned on the roof. |
