I first saw word on this from Slashdot:
http://games.slashdot.org/story/10/07/06/1947235/NASA-Launches-Moonbase-Alpha wrote: | Several readers have sent word that today NASA launched Moonbase Alpha, an online game with single- and multi-player capability that "allows participants to step into the role of an exploration team member in a futuristic 3-D lunar settlement." The game is available now through Steam for free. Moonbase Alpha was built as a precursor to an upcoming NASA MMO called Astronaut: Moon, Mars & Beyond, and they hope it will be "a proof of concept to show how NASA content can be combined with a cutting-edge game engine to inspire, engage and educate students about agency technologies, job opportunities and the future of space exploration." |
Steam's website link to the game:

Might be sound related:

Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Double-click on default playback device > Advanced tab > Set format to 48khz. |

Thanks, that worked. Now when I am in a game I keep spinning around. Maybe I will wait for the next patch. _________________

It was release on July 6, 2010! Are you sure you're not looking at the TV series? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moonbase_alpha |

I managed to finish the smallest mission for 1-2 players. Got to repair almost everything to get the oxygen back. Then, when I went to try the bigger maps, well, lets just there aren't bigger "maps" or anything. There's just more stuff to repair. Although, you can only achieve this by coordinating repairs with other players. I wished there were more stuff like exploring something or going having a mission where you have to go help someone to get back at the base a la Apollo 13.
It still quite a nice looking game and really simple to play. Camera controls are a bit fuzzy at times, but there rest is fine. I liked the feeling of the game and the robots! The rover was quite fun to ride as well.
I only hope there will be more missions and more stuff to play with in future releases even though it is only a proof of concept. They say this is one of two games planned. I wonder what the next one will be? _________________

They fixed the store page, it did say 1999 earlier this week. So kapak, is it that short? Worth my precious bandwidth? |

The next game is supposedly an MMO they've been working on. I would assume it will be similar if not more involved than this game. |
