|
A new Battlefield Hardline website is online, as EA DICE takes a hard line on the leaked details about the next installment in the shooter series. The site offers newsletter signups, and promises an unveiling at E3 on June 9th at 3:00 pm EDT. A leaked trailer is also online, though this may disappear soon judging by the "confidential" and "do not distribute" watermarks (thanks DSOGaming). Finally, there's an accompanying announcement on the EA website where Steve Papoutsis confirms this is being developed by Visceral Games and that this will depart the military theme for more of a cops versus criminals shooter. Here's word:
On behalf of everyone at EA and Visceral Games, I’m fired up to confirm our next project – Battlefield Hardline. The game launches this fall and it’s a brand new series in the Battlefield franchise, set against the backdrop of a genre we all love – the war on crime and the battle between cops and criminals.
Several years ago, I was at an internal EA meeting in Barcelona with creative leaders from across the company. It was there I met Karl Magnus Troedsson, the GM of DICE, for the first time, and we immediately began talking about games – I’ve always loved Battlefield and KM was a huge fan of Dead Space, which I was working on at the time. We started talking about different ways we could work together, different ways we could take Battlefield and action games in a new direction. It was then that this project that became Battlefield Hardline was born.
There’s been a lot of buzz today about Battlefield Hardline – we’re getting ready for E3 and fans found some details on our website about what we’re working on for the show. We’ve been reading all of your comments and we’re excited to be going into more detail soon on the ways we’re adding new twists and turns to the foundation of Battlefield multiplayer and more about how we’re bringing our strengths at Visceral to single player. _________________ [MTL]Mortis - "No one says you have to fight a war with your pants on..."

Being the contrarian that I am, I say fuck the haters on reddit. I'm down for this. Here's why:
The gameplay video reminds me of Counter-Strike. I've always liked the basic gameplay in Counter-Strike but hated the lack of respawning. Hardline solves this problem. The setting reminds me of the movie "Heat", which is a plus. I have no trouble with this franchise not always being about military combat.
The netcode is being fixed soon based on progress made in the CTE. The Frostbite engine will be more mature when this game comes out. Now they could still release a bug-ridden game, but unless there's a ridiculous discount/incentive for pre-ordering I never really pre-order games. |

Even with all the bugs, I think BF4 is the best BF game so far. It's also the only game in this genre. I love modern military technology and this email includes SWAT type combat so I'll be giving this a try. |

I agree with Wabbit on this one. BF4 is the best of the series so far and the least I've played yet, but that is another problem . That new Hardline title sounds quite interesting and changes a bit from the all out war from the standard BF series. It could be nice to have some new/improved game modes. That's actually what I liked from the Rainbow Six series.
I could easily see myself in an hostage situation during a bank robbery and start ramming the front door with some kind of breacher vehicle. _________________

Netcode will be fixed soon? haha what a broken record. Oh thank goodness for the dreamers in this world
I'll see how the launch goes with the new game. While it was a bummer showing up to the BF4 party when everyone else was rank 100.... I did skip much of the heartache of the launch. _________________ Steam ID: ProfessorZ

That's a good point regarding ranks. I didn't get started with BF3 until it was almost two years old. At that point there's not a ton of noobs left, so leveling up is hard. I remember being frustrated by all of the enemy tanks having unlocked reactive armor years ago and my tank got slaughtered every engagement. Vehicle unlocks are still OP in BF4.
One benefit to being there at launch is to use all of the "game of the month" players as rankup fodder. |

I dunno, I'm really much more of a military shooter player. Urban combat a la swat isn't that interesting to me. I'd love to see battlefield with the same scope as the ARMA series. Massive AO's and objectives with more emphasis on strategy instead of run and gun. _________________ [MTL]Mortis - "No one says you have to fight a war with your pants on..."

My ideal game is baesd around what MTLMortis said, Huge maps, forced teamplay and more time to strategise.
But seen as we dont play Arma here, ill settle with BF4.
But, if you try stopping me getting the new Starwars Battlefront, I will hurt you. |

I found another reason why I'm into this:
Possibility of no jets. The leaked assets don't include jet icons and it wouldn't make sense to have jet combat in this setting anyways.
I don't like the jets in BF3/4. Last night we were playing Mortar and a pilot (BipolarChihuahua) basically made all of our vehicles useless. His K/D is "only" 49/7 but every time one of our boats or LAVs left their spawn point they were at less than 50% health and an easy snack for any enemies, even infantry. All of those kill assists aren't easy to see on the stat sheet.
No matter where you're at on the map you're an instant target for jets. Compare this with an LAV/tank rampage where you can do serious damage but you can only lock down a small area of the map at one time. |

I agree: Wabbit is OP and should be banned
Massive online games are nice and all - but that usually mean a few core servers hosting hundreds/thousands of players. And that would mean EA-run servers. So I'd hate losing the situation we have at Dontcamp where we can try to enforce a teamplay enviroment by having all the hooks into our own playground (aka server). _________________ Steam ID: ProfessorZ
