Ya, Monica's last facebook post, as far as I can see is Dec 17 2014. I've had some facebook chat with him since then. Here is most of that chat up until his last response to me.
March 11th, 8:04pm
James R. Semple:
are you alive?
March 12th, 8:22am
Mike Lazarski:
Just barely. Have been real sick for two months or so. Have a doctors appointment tomorrow, Friday. I suspect a lot of bad news will be coming out.
March 13th, 8:57pm
James R. Semple:
how'd today's doctor's appointment go?
Mike Lazarski:
Not to good. He wanted me to go from his office and admit myself immiada
James R. Semple:
and did you admit yourself?
what's the diagnosis at this point?
Mike Lazarski:
I have been in this dump since 12:30 pm. Ignored him and went home and packed a bag of stuff. Then went to the hospital and they treated me like I was having a heart attack. Why am I here - liver failure.
James R. Semple:
so you're at the hospital now?
and what's the prognosis?
Mike Lazarski:
Was admitted 12:55 pm. They are talking a two to four day stay
James R. Semple:
and downer list for a new liver?
or did they give you x amount of time to live?
Mike Lazarski:
Since its the weekend won't know a thing until Monday? About two hours ago they drained more than four liters of fluid. Feel MUCH better now. There is no talk whatsoever on transplant. They are talking mess only
Mike Lazarski:
Mess = Ned's
Mike Lazarski:
Fuck, meds
March 19th, 8:29pm
James R. Semple:
So, are you out of the hospital?
March 20th, 4:36pm
Mike Lazarski:
Got out thursday night. Driving myself was hard. Recovering - feeling better. Getting lots sleep.
April 2nd, 8:12pm
James R. Semple:
How's the recovery going?
Mike Lazarski:
Slow but positive results |

Oh wow. That's shocking. He will most certainly be missed.
Monica had a huge impact on this community. Back when we were running events every single week, he founded and lead the Dontcamp Team Committee, which was mostly, if not entirely, made up of members which were not admins. He organized weekly meetings on TeamSpeak that helped the community leadership and its members stay well connected. And generally made this place better.
He was all about the community and never about himself. Even in game he was always the guy (maybe the only one) that was more than happy to just stay at a point and defend. I've never known anyone else like him.
We've made a donation on behalf of all DontCamp in his honor to HCS Family Services in Illinois. _________________ EDT sucks. |

aw, this is indeed sad. The second person out of the Dontcamp family to sadly pass away.
Mike and I had many an hour sat in Teamspeak, not even playing, just talking. Talking about his Niece whom he struggled with,
He was going through a tough time at one point and found respite with us guys, being able to talk about things with us lot and take his mind of his problems was a cherished time for him.
It sucks to hear about him dieing, I just hope he didn't suffer. |

Just found out from Dan, what a shame...
I remember gaming with him years ago, he was a good guy.

Monica was the best kind of teamplayer and was a cornerstone of our community. I count myself as fortunate to have met him in-person during our LAN parties. An incredibly nice guy who freely offered his time and help to anyone. He was one of the driving forces in organizing the community with his introduction of the Dontcamp Teamplay Committee Meetings, the infamous DTC! He never asked for anything in exchange for his time. A true friend who will be missed by many. |

I just happened to pop in to see how you all were still making out.
Glad to see you are all still kicking about.
I was very sad to hear about Mike. What a great guy and team player. I had lots of fun with him at the LAN parties and on-line. Sorry to see he passed. _________________

I've been away so long, an email arrived today titled "Remembering Mike", so I quickly came here and started looking through sections for info about it.
This is saddening, I met Mike at the Dontcamp LAN party along with a few others, and I even stayed at his house in Chicago once while passing through on vacation. He was so generous and friendly, his wife so welcoming and a perfect host.
I guess this reminds us how fragile life can be and that we are only here for a short time. All the best to you all. |

Today, April 26th, is the one year remembrance of Mike Lazarski's death.
In honor of this day I re-post here for all to enjoy my personal favorite Monica Lewinsky post of all time:
